See also Yamasa Raggio for the real-life replica version of the machine that appeared in Ridge Racer 2 (PSP).

The Soldat Raggio is a midship supercar that is manufactured by French-Italian automaker Soldat. The shape of this machine resembles the Enzo Ferrari at the rear, although made much thinner and shorter, and the first generation Acura/Honda NSX at the front, albeit being rounder.

It was featured on the front cover of Ridge Racers and Ridge Racers 2, it also appeared in the opening cutscene.

Ridge Racer 6 and 7[]

Ridge Racer 6 and 7's iteration of the Raggio is largely similar to its previous iteration, except for a performance increase in Ridge Racer 7 as it is first introduced as a Category 2 machine. It also has a slightly longer nose cone and a more aggressive rear end, bringing a more modern and fierce look, although according to the description, this is to further improve aerodynamics and cd-values by making the design smoother in terms of shape, likely in order to improve top speed performance. The Raggio's description in Ridge Racer 6 implies that the Raggio has a carbon fibre chassis, in order to keep the weight down, and that it may likely be an expensive machine with a limited production run, which is similar to the Assoluto Bisonte.

In Ridge Racer 6, the standard Class 2 variant of the Raggio is equipped with a 6-speed shifter, which later becomes a 7-speed shifter in its race spec Class 4 variant. In Ridge Racer 7, the Raggio always has a 7-speed shifter no matter what category it's in.

In both titles, the Raggio has the best-in-class top speed but is offset by a below-average horsepower increase from nitrous and somewhat heavy handling. This means the machine requires an expert driver to utilize its full potential. In the hands of a skilled driver, it is a very high-performing machine. This makes the Raggio a popular choice for experienced racers. Usually it is recommended to use Astaroth or Bosconian tires to stabilize its heavy turning performance.

The Soldat Raggio has a poor base nitrous charge rate, but stellar ultimate charge rate. The latter can be improved significantly by equipping Galaxian Normal Charge U nitrous, challenging the rates of the Jujak, Bayonet and the Raggio's devilish older sibling, the Crinale.

In Ridge Racer 7, a special Category 2 Machine variant of the Raggio is available by obtaining 100 Manufacturer Points with Soldat. This Complete Machine is the race spec Class 4 Raggio from the previous game, and has a more grippy driving style than the standard variant.

Ridge Racer Vita[]

"Renowned throughout Italy, RIVELTA wowed drivers with the MERCURIO and SOLARE, both released in the early 2000's. After being acquired by French manufacturer SOLDAT, RIVELTA continued with the RAGGIO, which was laden with exotic flare. Since the 1970's, Italian designer Giancarlo Zomegnan (age 76) continued the RAGGIO tradition by becoming the development director for SOLDAT's next-generation super sports cars. Having been married 7 times, Zomegnan is intimately familiar with the delicate concept of "love". When deciding on the new machine's name, he was quoted as saying, "We need something faster, something more out-of-reach than even the RAGGIO (Italian for "ray of light"), ...like a woman I once loved." Thus the machine was christened with the name, "RAUNA". Only Zomegnan will ever know the true identity of this mysterious woman."
―In-game description

The Raggio in Ridge Racer Vita has been renamed to "Rauna", and is a heavily-facelifted model now featuring traditional projector headlights, and that the design is based off of the original Raggio, but fitted with Arkbird and Quox body kit parts from Ridge Racer 7. It still retains the V12 engine and seven-speed paddle-shift gearbox as its predecessor.

Ridge Racer Slipstream[]

"Bred in the highlands, roaring through mountain passes, and tamed on the tracks, the Soldat Rauna is a machine you won't forget. Grab the keys and take this racing bad boy anywhere! Easy handling and magnificent top speeds make this machine stand out from the crowd."
―In-game description

In Ridge Racer Slipstream, the machine is featured as the Rauna and takes the guise of its Complete Machine variant from 7, as a Class 01 vehicle and now has the characteristics of a Standard-type machine.

Trivia[]

  • Based on the description in Ridge Racer Vita, it is likely that the Raggio was once a Rivelta product and was a supercar that had been produced since the 1970s, which is a subtle reference to the Lamborghini Countach. Its designer, Giancarlo Zomegnan, may likely reference Marcello Gandini, who designed the Countach under Bertone.
    • This would mean that besides the Crinale, the Raggio was one of the assets Soldat acquired from Rivelta.
  • The Class 6 Bacura Type-S variant of the Raggio in Ridge Racers has a livery that resembles and references the Rivelta Solare, thereby alluding to Soldat's ownership of the Rivelta brand as a whole.
  • Unusually, the "Druaga Type-Z" variant of the Raggio in Class 6 has a lower redline than the other Class 6 variants of the Raggio, despite the higher top speed. This is evident by the lower pitch of its sound when redlining. Further evidence of this is the tachometer needle only reaching 10,000rpm as opposed to the 10,500 that the other Class 6 Raggios can reach, and that the automatic gearbox, when chosen, shifts at 9000rpm instead of 9500. Also, it is advised to shift earlier when using the manual gearbox option.
  • If looked closely in Ridge Racers, the Raggio has the Soldat logo on the front fenders, although later models in future games no longer had this. This is also a common trait with most Ferrari vehicles, except that the Scuderia Ferrari shield is used in place of the traditional Ferrari logo on the front fenders.

  • RR Vita Soldat Rauna-0

    Soldat Rauna (RR Vita)

Raggio in Italian means "ray", or can be roughly translated to "lightning".
  • In Ridge Racers and Ridge Racers 2, the badging of the Raggio (on its rear vent) seems to look somewhat different to the actual badging seen in intro movies and cutscenes.
  • The Soldat Raggio also makes a cameo in Time Crisis 4. On the Prologue stage, you can see a billboard that advertises the Raggio. However, in the original arcade version of the game, Age's logo incorrectly appears in the billboards; it does feature a tagline called "Is it possible to enjoy a race?"
    • Upon closer inspection, it is the Yamasa Raggio with what appears to be a high definition model.
    • Lore-wise, the Raggio's description in Ridge Racer 6 may suggest that the Raggio itself is a limited-production vehicle with an expensive price tag, given its status as a high-performance sports car. It would be unusual for Soldat to create a billboard to advertise the machine, as it has a limited production run, or this could be a marketing stunt to get people to be more familiar with Soldat's machines, despite them being high-end and considered a luxury vehicle to the average consumer.
  • A real-life replica of the Raggio exists, under the name Yamasa Raggio, built from a company that is known for making pachinko slot machines, under license. It was built from the chassis, engine and running gear of a first generation Honda NSX, meaning that the real life Raggio is powered by a V6 rather than a V12.
  • The Raggio in Ridge Racer 6 and 7 are one of the three machines in the entire series with active rear wings that engage and adjust their angle at certain speeds, to improve handling and braking performance, the others being the Danver Hijack and Danver Bayonet.
  • In Ridge Racers and Ridge Racers 2, the Raggio has retractable headlights that open upwards, but in Ridge Racer 6 and 7, the Raggio has retractable headlights that open downwards, similar to those on the Jaguar XJ220.
  • Like the Meltfire, the Raggio was also designed and created by former Rivelta designers and engineers, according to the description of the Rauna in Ridge Racer Vita, which may reference Pininfarina's involvement with Ferrari (where it is implied that Rivelta had become an in-house design division for Soldat following their acquisition).
  • On the inner sleeve of the boxart for Ridge Racers, the Raggio is seen to have normal opening doors. Unlike it's real life counterpart the Ferrari Enzo which had scissor doors.
  • The machine in Ridge Racer Slipstream now features the new Rauna branding on the rear grille.
  • An update/Drift Survival event in Drift Spirits held in June 2021 (to commemorate Pac-Man's 41st anniversary) features the Rauna with a Pac-Man maze themed livery.
  • The Complete Machine variant of this machine in Ridge Racer 6 and 7 features a livery (Mappy in 6, Toypop in 7) that resembles the color scheme of Micro Mouse Mappy.
  • In Go Vacation, there is a race car that appears to be a heavily modernized Raggio, it could be a possible successor to the original Raggio.
  • Despite the original Raggio from Ridge Racers being featured in the original teaser for Ridge Racer 7, it is not playable in the final game.
