"Gut wrenching acceleration at the expense of all around functionality."

"The Spectra dishes out gut-wrenching acceleration at the expense of all-round functionality. There's no faster car off the grid."
―RRV announcer description.

The Danver Spectra is a special machine featured in Ridge Racer V, which can be unlocked by beating Pluto in a duel in Above the City.

Design and performance[]

Visually, the Spectra is a classic pink American luxury car, with customized styling and a low-slung look, inspired by several "fishtail" cars, such as the 1959 Plymouth Fury, 1959 Cadillac DeVille or even a 1960 Dodge Matador. Is powered by a monstrous 10-litre V8 engine, and the air scoop for the supercharger is visible on both car and engine model. In real life, similar engines can be found in drag racing, and Spectra's acceleration reflects this fact well enough, where it could easily reach 398 km/h quickly from 90 km/h, at cost of slow acceleration at lower RPMs. In a race, this means that Spectra will most likely take the top place very quickly, but this is countered by the fact that this car is somewhat difficult to control and most other special cars have higher top speed.

Trivia[]

  • "Spectra" is the plural word derived from "spectrum", which would be a ghost, or a supernatural apparition, making reference to its extremely strong and sudden acceleration, capable of making the car "figure" in unexpected places, also caused by high speed when cornering.
    • Moreover, the name along with the appearance of the car, are a clear reference to the Plymouth Fury 1958 from the 1983 horror film Christine.
  • The Spectra itself is actually a stereotypical parody of the pink Cadillac culture in the United States, which was made popular thanks to the late singer Elvis Presley, who owned several models of pink Cadillacs during his lifetime (including a 1961 DeVille Coupe). This makes even more sense when "Rock "N" Roll" is seen on the back of the car, and the clothing style of Pluto, the Spectra driver.
  • The name of the Spectra's engine, the 16D-GZTE, is a pun on Toyota's 2JZ-GTE engine on the A80 Supra.
    • Both engines are capable of extreme horsepower when tuned.
    • Unlike the engines of cars that the Spectra takes inspiration from, which feature a carburetor, the Spectra's engine likely uses modern fuel injection instead.
  • This is the only car in the series to wear white-wall tires.
  • The Spectra features a winged ornament on its hood, referencing the Spirit of Ecstasy symbol of Rolls-Royce. This could imply that besides it being a powerful lowrider, it is also a luxury car of its era, similar to Cadillacs in the 1950s. The only other car to possess something similar to this would be the Kamata Angelus from Ridge Racer (PSP).
  • The Latin text on the medal awarded with Spectra says "Omnis amans amens", which means "Every lover is demented".
  • The Spectra is referenced in the biography of the Category 2 Danver Hi-Night in Ridge Racer 3D, where it is said "It boasts a unique silhouette that harks back to Danver previous monster cars", implying that the Hi-Night is a modern successor to the Spectra.
  • This car shares the same engine sound with the Himmel E.O. from the same game, although with some differences in tone.
