Kamata (Japanese: 蒲田, かまた) is a Japanese car manufacturer that is known for its all-round capabilities. The Kamata name first appears in Ridge Racer V, but their original car, the Fiera (also called the Fiaro in Ridge Racer V and Fiarre in Ridge Racer Slipstream), has appeared in the earlier games. Kamata can be seen as Ridge Racer's counterpart to major Japanese automakers, Nissan and Mitsubishi in particular.

Trivia[]

  • Kamata (蒲田) is a Japanese name with a meaning related to cultivation of rice paddy, a traditional farming activity in Asian countries including Japan. It is also a common Japanese surname as well.
  • The company slogan of Kamata is "Hello, mobility future", as seen in the Ridge City Highway track in Ridge Racer (PSP).
  • In Ridge Racer: Unbounded, the Kamata name was found in one of the paint schemes for the Crinale. It is likely that Kamata either co-developed the car or supplied the engine, or it could a mistake from Bugbear, who developed the game.
  • The logo of Kamata could be based on the logo of Hyundai, as the latter features a curved "H", and the former, with a curved "K".
  • The Âge Prophetie and Abeille in Ridge Racer (PSP) are equipped with Kamata-sourced engines, which can imply that Kamata owns Âge, or both automakers are in an alliance with them. If the latter is the case, this could be a reference to the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.
  • Kamata's specialization is in jet turbine engines, as shown with the Ridge Racer (PSP) and Ridge Racer 7 versions of the Angelus and the ANGL concept in Ridge Racer 3D. This also makes a reference to Rolls-Royce, which was the only car manufacturer to actively build airplane engines, in addition to cars.
    • It may also be possible that the planes in the Airport Lap track are all powered by Kamata turbines.
    • Like Kamata, Gnade has also produced aircraft engines, but the latter may have ceased production of such engines after World War II.
  • Kamata and Assoluto are the only two brands in the series to have playable hybrid-electric cars.
  • In a news ticker in Ridge Racer 7, the brand is also shown to specialize in civil and commercial development as they have plans to build "a giant entertainment complex housing a movie theater, concert hall, shopping mall and even an airport", besides relocating their main HQ and showrooms to Tokyo Bay. This is a reference to Mitsubishi being a conglomerate with various operations ranging from the industrial and energy sector.
    • It is highly likely that the Oceanfront Cruise Way track featured in Ridge Racer 3D and Vita is the realization of Kamata's civil development plan to build such project.
  • Kamata is one of the two manufacturers that has right-hand drive cars, the other being Terrazi, since both manufacturers are Japanese.
  • Kamata have also made construction vehicles, as forklifts with "Kamata" written on the back appear in Tekken 6. It is also possible that the diggers that appear on Long Course in the first Ridge Racer are made by Kamata.
  • Kamata are the canonical constructors' champions of Ridge Racer 6 and 7, with the Angelus and RC410 used as their winning cars during the Ridge Universe series and Ridge State Grand Prix.
  • If the Fiera and Angelus seen in the covers of the original Ridge Racer and in Revolution are included, then Kamata has the most number of cars that were seen in the cover artwork of the games.
  • The Angelus in Ridge Racer V is the fastest car in the entire series, even before the nitrous mechanic was introduced in later games.
