The Cataract is a car manufactured by Lizard, featured in Ridge Racer Type 4.

Design and performance

Featuring a sleek, but somewhat large proportions, the Cataract's design is considerably one of a kind. Power comes from a large 12 liter V16 engine, mated to a 6-speed transmission. It's a fast car in a straight line thanks to its powerful engine, but it lacks sufficient turn-in into corners. On R4's branch system, it falls into the mid-end of Stage 4.

A speed machine with a Hollywood dream.

As you can see, the Cataract has a cinematic form. But the truth is the opposite. Hollywood film producers noticed the beauty of the design of this Lizard machine and made it appear as a near-futuristic car in science fiction movies. The basic configuration is a 12,000cc V16, and the ride quality will change slightly depending on the tuning of the team, but the essence does not change at all. If you sit in the driving space mounted at a low position so that the expression that the ground is different fits perfectly, you can enjoy the near futuristic world by itself. However, because it is very rearwardly positioned, some tricks are needed for drifting.

• It is the largest and heaviest car on the mid-end of Stage 4, and out of every car in the game, weighing in at 2300kg.
• It also has the most powerful engine out of all the Stage 4 cars (not including extra trial cars), at around 2360hp (using the Dig Racing Team version).
• Besides that, it has the most powerful combustion engine out of any car in the series, and is also the most powerful naturally aspirated engine.
• Its design is based on the Panoz Esperante GTR-1, with elements from the Batmobile from Batman Returns. This makes sense, as the Ridge Racer Type 4 guidebook states that it was originally a car that was popularly used in a science fiction film.
• This and the Danver Bayonet are two vehicles according to Ridge Racer lore that have been said to appear in films.
• According to the Ridge Racer Type 4 official guidebook entry of the Terrazi Destroyer, it was said that the Cataract was the main inspiration behind the Destroyer's design.
