Extreme Oval is a course first introduced in Rage Racer under the name The Extreme Oval. It returns in Ridge Racers 2 and Ridge Racer Accelerated.
Course information[]
Extreme Oval is the final course unlocked in Rage Racer, first appearing in Class 3's Rafale Grand Prix races. Despite its simple layout, claiming victory requires players to race around the course precisely and flawlessly, as even a single collision may be enough for opponents to overtake the player and set them back so far that they are unable to catch up.
In Rage Racer, the Assoluto vehicles, which boast the highest top speeds among the game's cars, are most at home in this course.
Trivia[]
- Despite the track's shape similarity to a tri-oval used in stock car and American open-wheel car racing, the starting line is located in what usually would be the back straight at real-life tri-ovals.
- If cheat codes are used to forcefully play a race at the Extreme Oval with Class 1 opponents in Rage Racer, it is possible to play the prologue sequence of the game.
- In Ridge Racers 2 and Ridge Racer Accelerated, it is impossible to perform a clean drift on any of the banked corners, due to what could be a programming error in the drift mechanic. During the first half of the corner, the car is pulled violently inwards which can very likely cause the car to crash into the inner wall. As for the second half, the car is instead violently pulled outwards at much greater strength and so it is very erratic to try drifting through the corners.
